AX-1 Transportation
This article explains how to transport and mount the AX-1 safely and correctly.
It covers available transport solutions, the Tractor-Mounted AX-1 Carrier, and the official procedure for securing the AX-1 during transport.
⚠️ Safety notice
Improper transport or strapping may result in machine damage or personal injury. Always follow the instructions in this article.
- AX-1 Transport Solutions
To make it easy to move the AX-1 between fields, Kilter provides two robust and user-friendly transport solutions:
- AX-1 Trailer: a road-ready trailer that can be towed by a car.
- Tractor-Mounted AX-1 Carrier: a platform mounted to a tractor’s three-point hitch
Both solutions share the same equipment and functionality. The AX-1 can be transported between fields using either the car trailer or the tractor-mounted carrier, providing flexible options to match different operational needs. The AX-1 Trailer is designed for road transport and can be towed by a standard vehicle, making it ideal for moving the robot between distant fields or sites. The Tractor-Mounted AX-1 Carrier (TMC) is intended for farmers who want to move the AX-1 seamlessly between fields using a tractor already in operation; mounted directly to a Category 2 three-point hitch, it is lifted and lowered using the tractor’s own hydraulics. Both transport solutions share the same functional equipment, including an integrated 105-liter water tank for extended field operations, a built-in centrifugal pump and hose powered by the AX-1 Honda generator for fast on-site refilling, and lockable storage boxes for spare parts, PPE, fuel or tools.

- Transportation of AX-1: Securing & Strapping Procedure
The procedure describes the official method for strapping and securing the AX-1 during transport, it applies to all transport solutions (trailer and tractor-mounted).
Equipment required
- 2 × car lashing straps
- 1 × cargo strap
3.1 Secure the front wheels
The two front wheels must be secured using car lashing straps:
- Wrap one strap around each front wheel as shown in the reference images.
- Attach the hooks to eye bolts, lifting eyes, holes, or other suitable anchor points on the transport equipment.
- Tighten the straps firmly so the wheels cannot move.
⚠️ Important
Do not over-tighten the straps, as this may damage the wheels or frame.
3.2 Prevent tipping: secure the rear wheel
To prevent forward tipping during transport, the rear wheel must be secured:
- Attach a cargo strap close to the rear wheel, as shown in the reference images.
- Tighten the strap so it is snug, but not overly tight.
⚠️ Warning
Over-tightening the rear cargo strap can cause excessive stress on the frame, potentially resulting in permanent bending or damage.
- Important note for older Tractor-Mounted Carriers
⚠️ Pre-2023 Tractor-Mounted AX-1 Carriers
If you are using a Tractor-Mounted AX-1 Carrier manufactured before 2023, additional modifications may be required to comply with current strapping recommendations.
Refer to Carrier Unit Modification: Pre-2023 Tractor Mounts before transporting the AX-1.
