Is AX-1 compatible with your farm?

The AX-1 is designed to automate ultra-precise weed control in vegetable and row-crop systems. However, it is not suitable for every farm setup. Use this guide to determine whether the AX-1 is compatible with your crops, field conditions, and farm infrastructure before scheduling a demo or deployment.

Crop Compatibility

The AX-1 AI models work with a defined set of supported crops. Kilter continuously adds support for new crops. Check the full and updated list here.
In general, the best fit crops are high-value herbs and vegetables where manual weeding is expensive, broadacre crops are typically not a good fit.

 Field Profile Requirements

Field profile plays a critical role in AX-1 performance. The robot works best when the field surface and beds allow stable wheel tracks and clear crop visibility.
Flat fields and raised beds with consistent shape and spacing are supported, while ridge systems, highly uneven fields, and beds with large height variation are usually not supported.
A uniform bed height, level and consistent wheel tracks, and open headlands for turning at the end of rows provide the best operational results.
Poor field preparation can cause navigation errors, unstable wheel contact, and an increased risk of the robot getting stuck or damaged.

GPS and Positioning Requirements

The AX-1 relies on precise GPS positioning to navigate rows. An internet connection is required to operate the AX-1 in autonomous mode, and RTK via NTRIP is necessary for accurate positioning. For smooth operations, it is also necessary to log the GPS signal that defines the wheel tracks. In raised bed systems, the GPS signal should be logged from the bed forming operation. In flat fields, it should be logged from the sowing or planting operation.

Quick checklist:

Your farm is likely a good fit if:

✔ Your fields are flat or raised beds with consistent geometry
✔ You have RTK-NTRIP GPS positioning
✔ Your fields have clean headlands and wheel tracks

Your farm may not be a good fit if:

✘ Fields have irregular bed shapes or ridge systems
✘ Crops are broadcast seeded or widely spaced
✘ GPS accuracy is below RTK NTRIP level
